Tiverton High School, Kingsmead School, Uffculme School and the West Somerset College in Minehead continue to cope well with the challenges of providing education services in largely rural areas with sparse populations.
But at the moment far too many of our teenage students face long journeys to study at college: journeys which are not merely time-consuming but tiring.
We need to expand the range of courses available in secondary education, preferably matching the needs of local employers, such as in the hospitality sector, to help us slow the steady drain of young people out of the area.
