Pressure from Ian Liddell-Grainger and other rural MPs has now paid off: the Government has issued new guidance calling on planners to resist solar farm developments on top-grade agricultural land.
That’s a start. But we must ensure farmers are well-supported so they can remain in business producing food. In a volatile world like ours it is folly to rely in imports for more than 40 per cent of what we eat. Effectively that means we can only feed ourselves until Thursday lunchtime each week - not a very comforting position.
