Our beautiful environment continues to attract visitors as well as many people who want to live here permanently. But it’s under threat from everything from fly-tipping to inappropriate building developments.
We need more rigorous environmental protection, and the Government’s recent decision to increase penalties for fly-tipping- currently costing local authorities £13 million a year to deal with - is a good start.
We must also ensure the Environment Agency prosecutes each and every time a water company pollutes a river or a beach with sewage.
